Shri Rang Ice Factory

Down at Plot No. K-9 in Phase-1 of Vatva GIDC, you will find Shri Rang Ice Factory. It is a different kind of workplace compared to the chemical and metal shops around us. It is cold inside because of the ice blocks we make. The floors are almost always wet, so everyone has to wear boots so they do not slip. We have these big tanks where the water freezes into large blocks. It takes a while for the ice to set properly. When it is ready, we use cranes to pull them out. It is a lot of work, especially during the summer months when everyone wants ice at the same time. During those days, we are working round the clock and the trucks are lined up outside waiting to load. In the winter, things slow down quite a bit and we take that time to fix the pipes and maintain the freezing units. Our staff is used to the damp and cold environment. We do not have fancy desks or chairs; most of our time is spent on the factory floor making sure the temperatures are right. If the power goes out, it is a huge headache for us, so we always have to keep an eye on the gauges. We have been here at K-9 for a long time and the locals know where to find us when they need cooling for their businesses. It is a basic operation but it keeps us busy.
