Mati Workshop is located in Jain Society, right across from the Pritam Nagar Akhada in Paldi. It’s a pretty quiet area compared to the main roads of Ahmedabad. We have a small space here where we do all our work. The name Mati means soil, and that’s really what we are about—working with our hands and making things from scratch. Our workshop is usually a bit of a mess. There are tools on every table, sketches pinned to the walls, and scraps of materials everywhere. We don't really mind the clutter because it means we are busy. Sometimes the young guys from the Akhada come over to chat or watch what we’re making. We like being part of the neighborhood. It’s not a corporate office at all; we have old chairs and a big wooden table where we sit and eat our lunch together. We don't have a big staff, just a few people who like to build things. Most of our days are spent experimenting with new ideas or fixing things that didn't go right the first time. We don't have a big sign outside, just a small one on the gate. People usually find us because they live nearby or someone told them about us. It’s a simple life, focused on the work we do every day. We just try to make things that people will actually use.
