Jay Jalaram Kirana Stores has been a part of this Ahmedabad neighborhood for quite a while now. We are situated right opposite the Vasna Police Choki. Having the police station right there makes the area feel very steady. The 380001 postcode covers a lot of ground, but our little corner is usually where people stop to pick up their daily things. The morning starts with unloading milk and bread. You can hear the city waking up and the traffic starting to build on the main road. The shop floor is old and we have painted the shelves a few times over the years. We try to keep things organized, but on busy days, it can get a bit messy with open bags and boxes everywhere. It is not a supermarket where everything is under bright lights. It is just a local store where we know which brand of tea you like. My hands are usually a bit rough from handling the gunny bags and the loose sugar. We don't spend money on big signs or fancy decorations. We just make sure we are here when the sun comes up. Most of the time, I am sitting behind the counter or checking the weight on the scales. It is a quiet life in a way, despite being in such a central part of Ahmedabad. We just keep doing what we do every day. There is no need for anything more complicated than that for a shop like ours.
