Gheekanta Road is always a busy place to be, and our shop is right in the thick of it. We are up on the fifth floor of Laxmivishnu Market, at No. 528. It’s quite a climb if the lift is being slow, which happens more often than we’d like. Being on the fifth floor means we don't get as many random people walking in as the shops on the ground floor, but we have our regulars who know the way. The market is full of different wholesalers and retailers, so there's always a lot of chatter and people carrying big bundles of cloth. Inside our space, it’s mostly just shelves and a small desk where we do the accounts. We specialize in different types of clothing, mostly things that people in Ahmedabad like to wear. The windows look out over the roofs of the surrounding buildings, which is actually a nice view when we take a tea break. We keep things pretty simple here. There’s no fancy carpet or expensive furniture, just what we need to run the business. Most of our time is spent checking the quality of the pieces we get and folding them neatly. It’s a bit of a grind sometimes, especially when it’s hot outside, but we like the work. It’s a real, working-class market and we’re glad to be a part of it. We keep things moving and focus on the day-to-day tasks.
