Down at 51, Parameshwar Estate, the air always feels heavy with the smell of the nearby textile mills. We are right opposite Omkar Textiles, so there’s a lot of truck traffic coming and going on Naroda Road. It’s a very industrial part of the area, near Memco. DIGITAL INSTRUMENTS CORPORATION is just one of many spots in this estate. Our space is basically a big room with high ceilings and some partitioned areas for the desks. It gets pretty loud during the day with the machines next door and the vehicles outside. We’ve got a heavy metal door that we keep propped open when the weather is nice, but mostly we keep it shut to keep the dust out. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks here and there. We aren't really the type to decorate much, so the walls are mostly bare except for a calendar and a few notices. It’s a practical place for practical work. Most of us arrive early to beat the worst of the Naroda Road traffic. Lunch is usually something packed from home, eaten quickly so we can get back to it. It’s a grit-and-gears kind of life here at 51, Parameshwar Estate. There’s no lobby or receptionist, just us working away in the middle of all that industry. We’ve been here for years and the routine hasn't changed much. Sometimes we stay late when there is extra to do.
