Chandresh Kirana Stores

If you walk down towards Sutar Na Karkhana in Naroda, you will find us at 329/5. Chandresh Kirana Stores has been part of this Ahmedabad neighborhood for a long time. It is a dusty area because of all the workshops and factories nearby, so I am always cleaning the counter with an old cloth. The shop is at 329/5, and it’s just a basic room filled with jars of snacks and bags of grain. Ahmedabad gets incredibly hot in the afternoons, so the shop stays a bit dark to keep the sun out. We don't have any air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that spins slowly. Most of our customers are workers from the nearby karkhanas who stop by for a packet of biscuits or some tobacco. I try to keep everything people might need, from soap to cooking oil. The shelves are made of old wood and they creak a bit when I put heavy things on them. It’s not a polished place by any means. There are always some empty crates sitting outside on the pavement. I handle all the stocking and the cleaning myself, so it keeps me busy from morning until late at night. It’s just a simple life here in Naroda, selling kirana items to whoever walks through the door.
