About Vandana Waardana & Crockery House – Housewares & Supplies in Agra
Our shop is at 15/111 in Soro Katra, which is a busy part of Shah Ganj. It is a small space but we pack a lot into it. There are boxes of glasses and steel tiffins stacked almost to the ceiling. Sometimes I worry that if I pull one out, the whole thing might come down, but we have a system. People from around the neighborhood come in when they need a new kettle or maybe some plates for a guest who is staying over. We also have a lot of items that people buy for wedding gifts, so we keep some colorful wrapping paper under the counter. The street outside is always narrow and full of rickshaws, so it can be a bit of a squeeze to get inside the shop. We don’t spend money on big signs or anything. Most of our customers are just people who live nearby and have been coming here since they were kids. It gets a bit dark in the back of the store, so we have to use a torch sometimes to find the specific pattern someone is looking for. It is just a regular local shop where we try to keep the prices fair and the shelves full. We don't have a computer for the bills, we just write them out by hand in a yellow ledger and give the customer their change. It is simple and it keeps us going.
