Our place is over at E-83 in Site-C of the UPSIDC area in Sikandra. If you know the industrial zone here, you know it gets pretty dusty and busy with trucks coming in and out all day long. Uday Shoes Pvt. Ltd. has been operating from this spot for a while, and the building has seen better days, but it’s where all the actual work happens. Inside, you’ll usually hear the sound of the stitching machines and the smell of glue and leather is everywhere. It’s a factory setting, so it isn’t exactly quiet or pristine. We spend most of our time on the floor checking the soles and making sure the pairs match up before they go into the boxes. The staff mostly comes from the nearby areas, so there’s a lot of local talk during the lunch breaks. Sikandra is a tough place to work in the summer because of the heat, but we keep the fans going and just get on with it. We handle a lot of bulk orders, so the warehouse section is usually packed to the ceiling with crates. It’s a straightforward operation at Uday Shoes Pvt. Ltd. without any of that corporate fluff you see in big city offices. We just focus on making shoes that people can actually wear and getting them shipped out to the distributors on time. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know.
