Being out at the 12th Km Stone on the Delhi-Agra Road means we are away from the main city noise of Agra, but Artoni has its own pace. The factory and office for Euro Safety Footwear stay pretty active. You can hear the machines going in the back where the boots are being put together. It gets dusty out here, and the heat in the summer is no joke. We mostly focus on safety shoes, making sure they are tough enough for people working in factories or mines. It isn’t glamorous work. There are stacks of leather, rubber soles, and steel toes everywhere. We spend our days checking the stitching and making sure the orders for the week are ready to go out on the trucks. The staff mostly comes from nearby villages or the outskirts of Agra. We eat lunch together and talk about whatever is happening in the news or the local cricket scores. It’s a practical environment. We don’t have fancy carpets or glass walls; it’s mostly concrete and metal. People here know how to work with their hands. When a big shipment is ready, everyone chips in to get the boxes loaded up. It’s a long day, especially when the power cuts happen, but we have our generators and we keep things moving. It’s just how we run things out here on the highway. We’ve been at this spot for quite a long time.
