Brown Sugar Shoes Company is over on Khandari Road, right across from the Sparsh Malhotra Hospital. Being in Khandari, we get a lot of people walking by, especially with the hospital being right there. Our shop at 43-B is filled with the smell of leather and rubber. We have boxes stacked up high, sometimes all the way to the ceiling, because we try to keep a good variety of shoes for people to try on. It’s not a fancy boutique with carpets and soft lighting. It’s more of a practical shop where you come to find something that fits and lasts. We spend a lot of our time unboxing new arrivals and putting them on the shelves. Sometimes the floor gets a bit cluttered with empty boxes when we are busy, but we clear it out when we can. We talk to people about what they need, help them find the right size, and then box it back up for them. The road outside can be noisy with the traffic and the sirens, but inside we just focus on the shoes. We’ve been at this address for a while, and the locals know us as the place opposite the hospital. We don’t do big sales or loud promotions; we just keep the doors open and help whoever walks in.
