Kakatiya Chilly & Haldi Powder

We are over here in Laxmipuram, right across from the C. W. C. building in Warangal. Most days start early because the spice grinding takes a long time if you want to get the colors right. The smell of dried chillies is everywhere in our small shop at H. No -10-13-146. It makes you sneeze sometimes but you get used to it after a few years of working the machines. We spend most of our time making sure the haldi is bright yellow and the chilly powder doesn't have too many seeds mixed in. People from the neighborhood stop by because they know where we sit. It’s a simple setup. We don't have fancy packaging or big trucks. Just the small grinders and the bags we fill up by hand. Some days the humidity makes the powder stick, so we have to wait for the air to clear out before we finish the batch. We’ve seen many businesses come and go around this part of town, but we just keep doing our thing near the warehouse. The traffic outside can get loud with all the lorries moving stuff, but inside it’s just the sound of the metal blades turning the dried spices into dust. We don’t talk much while working. We just focus on the bags. If you are walking near the C. W. C. you can probably smell the pepper and turmeric before you even see our door. That's just how it is here.
