Down here at Rns Colony in Boduppal, we spend our days dealing with a lot of grain and food supplies. The warehouse at Plot 184 is usually pretty active with sacks being moved around. We deal with farmers and suppliers to get the raw stuff in, then we have to sort and pack it. It gets a bit dusty when the big bags are opened, but that’s expected in this line of work. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of the batches because nobody wants bad rice or lentils. The loading area is always a bit of a mess with trucks trying to back in from the narrow road. We’ve got a small crew of guys who know the routine. It’s not a glamorous job, just moving food from one place to another and making sure it stays dry and clean. We often have to double-check the weights on the scales because they can get a bit finicky sometimes. The office part is just a desk with a lot of ledgers and a dusty computer. We like being in the Uppal area because it’s easy for the transport to reach us. Every day is mostly the same—unloading, checking, and then shipping it back out to the markets. It’s just about keeping the supply moving so the shops stay stocked up for people to buy. The air always feels heavy with the smell of the sacks and the dry goods we keep stacked up. We spend a lot of time sweeping the floor because there’s always a bit of grain that spills.
