Jay Ice Factory

Jay Ice Factory is located at Plot No. 5623/a in Phase-2 of Gidc. It’s one of the few places in the area where it’s actually cold. We spend our days making large blocks of ice. The sound of the compressors is something you hear as soon as you get close to the gate. It’s a constant low hum that never really stops. Inside, the air is damp and chilly. There’s always water on the ground, so we have to be careful not to slip. We wear heavy boots and thick shirts even when it’s scorching hot outside. Our main work is freezing water and then getting the blocks out of the molds. It’s heavy work and takes a lot of physical effort. We load the ice onto trucks throughout the day. Some people come by with small carts too. We don’t have a website or a fancy office. There’s just a small wooden desk where we keep the logs. Most of our customers have been buying from us for a long time. They know where we are in Phase-2. We don’t talk much about things being perfect; we just make sure the ice is solid and delivered when it’s needed. Sometimes when the power goes out, we have to scramble to keep things from melting. It’s a bit of a stressful job sometimes, but we’ve got a good routine down at 5623/a. It is hard work but we are used to the cold.
