Yasu Saw Mill is over in Papadapalli Village. Even though the address says it is in the urban part of the district, it still feels like a village when you are here. The main thing you notice is the smell of freshly cut wood as soon as you get close. We have a big saw that runs most of the day, and it makes quite a bit of noise. The sawdust gets everywhere, on our clothes, in our hair, and all over the floor. We spend a lot of time moving heavy logs around and making sure they are lined up right before we start the blade. It’s physical work and it keeps us tired by the end of the day. People from the district come to us when they need planks for building things or just some wood for a project at home. We don't have a big catalog or anything like that. You just come by, tell us what size you need, and we see if we have the right logs for it. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, so we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back on. That’s just part of life here in Papadapalli. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill around, we just want to get through the pile of logs we have for the week. It’s dusty and noisy, but it’s what we do.
