D-724 - Metal House

You’ll find D-724 - Metal House over on R. P. Road in Secunderabad, at number 7-3-706/3. It’s a noisy part of town, and our shop adds to that with all the clanking of metal rods and sheets. We deal with all sorts of hardware and scrap, so the floor is always a bit dusty and there’s usually a bit of grease on the door handles. I’ve been working here for years, and I can tell you exactly where every piece of iron is kept, even if the shelves look a bit disorganized to anyone else. We don’t have a fancy catalog; you just come in and tell us what you’re building, and we see what we have in stock. Some days we’re busy cutting pieces to size, and the sparks are flying everywhere. It’s hard on the back, moving these heavy things around all day, but it’s what we know. The regulars know us by name, and they usually stop for a quick chat while we’re weighing their order. We don't use any fancy computer systems for the inventory; it's mostly written down in a big ledger that’s seen better days. It’s a simple way of doing things, but it’s worked for us so far. The heat in the afternoon can be tough, but we just keep the shutters open and keep moving until closing time.
