Phadke Hospital

We are over in Tilak Wadi, and Phadke Hospital has been a part of this neighborhood for quite some time. The hospital is on a street that feels a bit more settled than the main commercial areas. It’s an old building, and you can tell by the high ceilings and the way the doors creak a little when you open them. We have a small garden area out front that we try to keep tidy, though the weeds usually win in the rainy season. Most of the staff here has worked together for a long time, so we have a good rhythm going. We don’t have those fancy digital check-in systems; you just come to the desk and talk to us. The waiting room has some old magazines and wooden chairs that have been there forever. It’s a calm place for the most part, though it picks up on Monday mornings. We spend a lot of time just talking to the patients, many of whom are our neighbors from around Tilakwadin. The smell of the place is a mix of antiseptic and the jasmine we have growing near the entrance. We keep the lights a bit dim in the wards to help people rest. It’s not a high-tech facility, but it’s our workplace and we keep it running as well as we can. Every evening, we lock up the main gates and head home, just like everyone else in the wadi. That is just how it is.
