Aakarav Bricks

Plot 12 at Sant Nagar is where we set up. We are right across from Raj English School, so it’s pretty loud when the kids come out for their break. Arvi Road is always full of scooters and trucks going back and forth, making things quite noisy. We started this because we knew the area well. It’s a basic setup we have here in Wadgaon. We have the kiln area and the open storage space. Wadgaon has grown a lot since we first put the fence up around this plot. The soil around here changes color depending on how much it has rained lately. We spend hours walking around the stacks, looking for any bricks that might have cracked in the heat. It’s mostly just us and a few regular helpers from the neighborhood who have been with us for a while. Lunch is usually brought from home, and we eat it in the shade of the back wall where it's a bit cooler. You can smell the wet earth when we’re starting on a new batch. It's a heavy job, lifting all day, but it's what we do. We don't have a computer system, just a ledger book that’s seen better days and a pen that usually runs out of ink. The school kids sometimes lose their balls over our fence, and we have to go find them among the piles of bricks. It's a simple life for everyone at the yard.
