Darshan Mechanical & Engineering Works sits right on Bye Pass Road in Yamunanagar. We are directly opposite the Chandpur Masjid, which is a good landmark for people trying to find us. If you hear the call to prayer, you know you’re in the right spot. The shop is usually full of metal scraps and various tools scattered on the workbenches. It’s a bit messy, but we know where everything is. Haryana can get very hot, so we have a couple of big pedestal fans that blow the air around, though they don't do much. We’ve been doing mechanical work here for a long time. My father started it, and now we just keep it going. People bring in all sorts of broken machinery for us to look at. Sometimes we can fix it right away, other times it takes a few days to find the right part. We don't have a fancy waiting room. Most customers just stand around and talk while we work. The road outside is always busy with trucks heading toward the highway. We’ve gotten used to the noise. We don't use any high-tech systems for our records, just a big notebook and a pen.
