Avon Mechanical Engineering Works

Avon Mechanical Engineering Works is our workshop on Ambala Road in Village Batti. We are right near the Khera Power House and across from the Shiv Mandir. The 220Kv BBMB station is a big landmark right there too. It’s a noisy spot with the hum of the power lines and the traffic going by to Ambala. We do mechanical engineering work here. The shop is built of brick and has a heavy tin roof. When it’s sunny, the metal gets hot, so we keep the fans going all day. We spend a lot of time working on heavy parts and fixing machinery for the local people. There’s a lot of grease involved. Our workbenches are thick wood, scarred from years of use. We have a small altar inside where we light an incense stick every morning before starting the heavy tools. It’s a habit we’ve had since we opened. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know we are here by the sound of the grinding and the sight of the sparks. Sometimes the cows from the village wander near the door, and we have to shoo them away. We work until it gets dark, then we lock up the big gates and head home. It’s a simple routine, and it’s served us well for a long time now. We just focus on the job at hand and keep things moving.
