If you ever find yourself at Paradise Chowmohani, you’ll likely see our building. This is the place for the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation here in Tripura. It’s a busy spot in town and there’s always a lot of movement around the junction. Our offices are full of maps and charts about soil types and different kinds of fruits and vegetables that grow in our soil. It’s not a silent place by any means. You can hear the fans whirring and people talking about planting seasons and seeds. We have farmers coming in from the countryside quite often to talk about their crops and the weather. The furniture is the standard style which means it’s heavy and has been here for a long time. We have stacks of files on every desk because there is always some report to finish or a project to check on. It gets quite humid in the afternoons but we keep the windows open to let the air circulate. We don't try to look like a modern company. We are a government office and we look the part. There’s a lot of history in these walls and we take the work seriously even if the building is getting a bit old. We focus on the dirt and the plants because that’s what matters for the state. It is a lot of walking back and forth between rooms every day.
