West Jaintia Hills Farmers Producer Company Limited is based out of Sanaro village. If you are looking for us, we are over at Christina Shylla’s place. It’s in the Thadlaskein area, not too far from Jowai. The hills here are beautiful, but they make the work quite physical. We are a group of farmers who decided to pool our resources and work as one company. It helps us deal with the markets and the supplies we need for the season. Our setup is very basic. We use a room in the village to keep our logs and meet with the other members. Since we are in the West Jaintia Hills, we have to deal with the local climate, which can be unpredictable. We spend most of our time outdoors anyway. The village of Sanaro is where many of us grew up, so we know the land well. We don't have any fancy signs or big marketing plans. We just focus on getting the produce sorted and making sure the farmers get what they need. It’s a lot of walking and talking to people in their fields. Thadlaskein is a good central spot for us to gather. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing, year after year. It is a slow process sometimes, but we are used to it and we know how to handle the challenges that come with mountain farming.
