Rajeswari Ramakrishnan Lions Eye Hospital

Gandhi Nagar is a busy spot and we are right in the middle of it here at Rajeswari Ramakrishnan Lions Eye Hospital. It is a long name for a place, but most people just know where we are. We spend a lot of time checking people's eyesight and helping them figure out why things look blurry. The sun hits the front windows pretty hard in the afternoon, so we have to keep the curtains pulled halfway down most of the time. It is a simple setup with some benches for people to sit on while they wait for their turn. You see all sorts of folks coming in, from young kids who need glasses for school to older people who can't see the news clearly anymore. We have been here long enough that the walls could probably tell some stories. It isn't a corporate office with shiny floors; it's more of a place where people feel okay just sitting and chatting while they wait. We have some charts on the walls and a few old machines that still work perfectly fine. It gets a bit crowded on Mondays, but we just take things one person at a time. Being in Gandhi Nagar means we are close to everything, which is handy for the staff. We usually just grab tea from the stall nearby during breaks. It is a regular job and we try to make sure everyone leaves seeing a bit better than when they came in.
