Dattasai Bricks

Dattasai Bricks is located in Ankannagudem, which is just a short trip from Eluru. We have got a good patch of land here where we do all our molding and burning. It is a family-run thing, really. My uncle started it, and now a few of us cousins keep it going. The soil around here is actually pretty good for making sturdy bricks. We spend our days mostly outdoors. When it is the rainy season, things slow down a lot because we cannot get the bricks to dry out in the fields. We just use that time to fix the equipment or clean up the sheds. It is a tough life, but we like being our own bosses. You will not find us in suits or sitting in fancy offices. We are usually covered in mud by noon. We sell to people building their own homes or contractors doing small jobs in Eluru. Word of mouth is how we get most of our work. If you do a decent job, people tell their neighbors. We do not promise anything we cannot do. If the kiln is full, we tell people they have to wait a week. It is better than lying. The work is repetitive, sure, but there is a rhythm to it that feels right. We just keep the fire going and the bricks moving out to the customers. It is what we know how to do.
