Shuru Mitra Charitable Foundation

Shuru Mitra Charitable Foundation is based out of C-20 in Vipin Garden. We are on Gali Number 5 in the North Block of Uttam Nagar. New Delhi is a huge place, and it’s easy to feel lost, so we started this small foundation to keep things grounded and local. We’ve got this little space here where we spend most of our mornings drinking chai and looking over what needs doing. It’s nothing special to look at, just an office with some old desks and a lot of paperwork that needs filing. We spend a lot of time talking to the people who live in the lanes around here. Some days are slow and we just sit by the door and talk about what the neighborhood needs. Other days, it’s a total scramble to get things done for someone who’s in a really tough spot. We aren't professional writers or anything, so explaining what we do is sometimes harder than actually doing the work. We just help. If someone is hungry or needs clothes or has a problem with their kids' schooling, they eventually find their way to Gali Number 5. We don't have a lot of money, but we have time and we know how to get things moving. It’s just us being neighbors to our neighbors. Uttam Nagar is our home, and we just want to be useful while we are here. When the rain comes, the street outside gets muddy, but people still come by. We try to keep a few extra umbrellas for folks who need them.
