Nanak Batteries

People around Janakpuri know where B D Block is, and we’ve been tucked away here at number 11 for quite a while now. It is a simple place, mostly filled with rows of batteries and the smell of lead and acid that you get used to after the first week. Nanak Batteries isn't some fancy showroom with glass doors. It’s more of a workspace where things actually happen. Most days start with moving heavy stock around because these batteries for cars and inverters aren't exactly light. We spend a lot of time checking charges and making sure everything is sitting right on the shelves. Sometimes the tea guy from the corner comes by twice before we even get a chance to sit down. Janakpuri can get really busy, especially in the evenings when everyone is coming home and realizes their car won't start or the power backup is acting up. We just handle what comes through the door. There’s a lot of dust from the road that settles on the counters, so someone is always wiping things down with an old cloth. It’s just how it is. We know the neighbors and the other shopkeepers, and we’ve seen the area change quite a bit over the years. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till we pull the shutters down at night. Not much to look at, but we are here every day.
