Mahalaxmi Opticians

I open up the shop here in New Moti Nagar every morning around the same time. The address is D-8 B if you are looking for it. It is not a huge place, just a regular optical shop with shelves of frames along the walls. I spend a lot of time adjusting nose pads or tightening tiny screws that people drop on their way in. My hands usually smell like that cleaning spray we use on the lenses for the customers. Most people coming in are neighbors who have lived in this area for years. We talk about the weather or the new construction down the road while they try on different glasses. Some want the thick plastic ones and others like the thin metal frames. I do not try to push the expensive stuff on anyone because people around here know what they need and what they can afford. It gets a bit dusty being right on the street so I am always wiping down the glass cases with an old cloth. Sometimes the tea stall guy from next door brings over a cup in the afternoon when it is quiet. I have been sitting in this same chair for quite a while now watching people walk past the window. If you need a basic eye check or just broke your favorite pair of specs, this is where I stay. It is just me and the inventory most days, making sure everything is lined up straight.
