If you head over to B-13 in Mayapuri Industrial Area Phase I, you’ll find Imperial Tyre Retreading & Vul Work. This part of Mayapuri is always full of trucks and heavy machinery, so we are right where the action is. Our workshop is dedicated to giving old tyres a second life. It’s heavy, dirty work. We spend a lot of time around the vulcanizing machines, which get very hot. The smell of rubber is something you just get used to after a few days of working here. We have stacks of tyres piled up high, waiting for their turn to be buffed down and have new tread applied. It isn't a job for people who mind getting their hands black with soot and grease. We don't have a fancy office to sit in; we’re mostly out on the floor making sure the molds are set right. Every tyre is different and some need more work than others to make them safe for the road again. We just take it one tyre at a time. It’s a busy environment with a lot of noise from the compressors and the tools. We don’t bother with much talk, we just keep the workflow going so the trucks can get back on the road. It’s honest, physical labor that keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down. We just do the work and keep things simple.
