Hakam Singh

My business is located at D-145 in the Mayapuri Industrial Area, Phase-2. I’ve been running things under my own name, Hakam Singh, for a very long time now. Mayapuri is a place that never really sleeps. There’s always someone welding something or a truck being loaded nearby. My workshop is full of heavy equipment and metal parts. It’s a bit of a maze inside because I tend to keep everything I think might be useful later. I don’t have a staff of secretaries or managers; it’s mostly just me and a couple of helpers. We do all kinds of industrial repairs and fabrication. My hands are usually stained with grease, and that’s how I like it. People come to me when they have something broken that they can't fix themselves. I don’t believe in fancy marketing or big promises. I just look at the job and tell them if I can do it. Most of my customers have been coming to me for decades. We often sit on old stools and drink tea while discussing a job. The neighborhood is loud and dusty, but it’s home to me. I’ve seen businesses come and go in Phase-2, but I’ve managed to stay put. It’s not an easy life, but it’s mine. I just focus on the machinery and making sure the work is solid before it goes out.
