Ghar Ki Laundry

We have this small laundry setup on the ground floor over in A-4/270 in Paschim Vihar. It’s quite close to the Balaji Action Hospital, so there is always a lot of traffic and people moving around outside. The shop isn't very big. We have the washing machines and the drying area mostly taking up all the space. It gets pretty humid inside when we have the irons going and the machines are on a heavy cycle. My day starts early, usually lugging bags of clothes in from the neighborhood. People from the nearby flats bring their stuff every morning. We do a lot of washing and folding. It's just basic work. There is no fancy computer system here, just a notebook where I write down who brought what and when they need it back. Sometimes we get behind if the electricity goes out, which happens now and then around here. The hospital nearby means the area stays busy even late at night. We just focus on getting the stains out and making sure everything is dry before the evening rush. It’s a lot of standing and moving around. My hands are usually wrinkled from the water and the soap. It’s not a glamorous job but it keeps us busy. We’ve been in this ground floor spot for a bit. It’s a lot of hard work every single day, just keeping up with the piles of clothes that never seem to end.
