Our office is in one of the L.I.G. flats in Rajouri Garden. It is unit 182-B. If you know Delhi, you know Rajouri can be a bit of a maze with all the different blocks and gates. We have been in this flat for a long time. It is definitely more of a lived-in space than a professional showroom or a modern office. We have got desks squeezed into the rooms and cables running along the floorboards. It is a bit cramped when everyone is in at once, but we manage. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so we have families living all around us. You can hear kids playing outside and people talking in the corridors while we work. It is a nice change from a cold, quiet office building. We do not have a big sign out front, just a small nameplate next to the doorbell. Usually, people find us because someone told them where we were. We spend a lot of time on the phone or looking at documents. The tea stall down the lane is where we get most of our fuel for the afternoon. Sometimes the air conditioner makes a weird rattling sound, but we have gotten used to it. It is a practical place for a practical job. We are not trying to impress anyone with a fancy lobby or leather chairs. We just want to finish the day’s tasks and head home.
