Rajeev Kumud Education And Welfarefoundation is based out here in West Champaran. Specifically, we are over in Bettia, at Priyesh Pushkar’s place. It’s a bit of a drive to get out here if you aren’t from around the Bagaha area. Things move a little slower in this part of the state, which suits us just fine. We mostly focus on what the kids and families around here need. It isn't always about big projects. Sometimes it’s just making sure someone has the right papers for school or a bit of help with a local problem. We don't have a big staff. It's mostly just a few of us who grew up here and wanted to stay and do something for our own town. The office is really just a room with a couple of chairs and a lot of old books stacked up. We don't spend much on decorating because the money is better used elsewhere. You might find us sitting outside talking to neighbors most afternoons when it's not too hot. We know the roads here and the families by name. There isn't any fancy mission statement on the wall. We just do the work that comes our way every morning. Sometimes we get tired, but then someone else stops by and we start again. That’s just life in Bettia. We are proud of where we are from and don't feel the need to act like a big city organization. It works for us.
