Dhanraj Grocery Store

Dhanraj Grocery Store is situated at 82-159 on Chidri Road, right in the Badruddin Colony area. It’s a neighborhood shop where we sell all the usual things you’d need for your home. We have bags of rice, different kinds of lentils, soaps, and snacks. I started this shop because I wanted to work for myself and serve the people living nearby. The space isn't very large, so we have to use every bit of the walls to stack things up high. I have a small stool I sit on near the entrance where I can see everyone coming in. Badruddin Colony is a friendly place, and most of my customers are people I see every single day. We talk about their families or how prices are going up while I weigh out their sugar or flour. Sometimes the light in the back flickers, and I keep meaning to change it, but then I get busy with a customer and forget until it happens again. It’s just one of those things about running a small place. Chidri Road gets quite dusty in the summer, so I have to wipe down the jars pretty often to keep things clean. We don't have a computer system; I just use my book and a pen to write everything down. It works for me. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living and I’m glad to be here at 82-159.
