Venkanna Tailors

You can find Venkanna Tailors at H. No: C-5 in the village of Peddamupparam. This is located in the Narsimhulapeta region of Warangal. The shop is basically a part of the house. I spend most of my daylight hours behind the sewing machine. There is a specific rhythm to the clicking of the needle that I’ve grown used to over the years. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so I have to be careful when threading the needle now. We handle all sorts of repairs and new stitching for the people living around here. There are piles of fabric everywhere and notebooks where I write down the measurements. It’s not a fancy boutique, just a place where you get your clothes fixed or made. The villagers stop by to chat even if they don't have any work for me. Sometimes it gets lonely, but mostly it’s just peaceful. We don't do any advertising or have a big sign. The house number C-5 is easy enough to find if you ask anyone in Peddamupparam. The summer heat makes the work slow, but we keep going. It’s a honest way to spend the day. I learned this trade from my father and I’ve stayed in this same spot. Most days end with a bit of a backache, but that’s just how tailoring is. I keep the chalk and the scissors on a shelf right next to the machine so I don't lose them.
