Shiva International Jute Durries Production & Sales Centre

You can find us over in Kothawada at Indira Priyadarshani Nagar. The address is 11-28-320E, tucked away in the Auto Nagar area. We spend our days making jute durries, which is a lot of manual work. There are looms set up in the back and the sound of weaving fills the room from morning until evening. Jute is a rough material to work with, but it lasts a long time. We sell what we make right here from the center. It’s a bit crowded with rolls of rugs and stacks of raw fiber piled up in the corners. Some of the patterns are ones we have been doing for years. It's dusty because of the natural fibers, so we keep the fans going. People from the neighborhood often drop in to see what’s new or to pick up a floor covering for their homes. We don't really do much advertising, mostly just word of mouth. The light in the workshop isn't the best, but we know the patterns by heart now. It takes a steady hand and a lot of patience to get the weave tight enough. We just focus on getting the orders finished for whoever needs them. It's a simple operation, nothing too fancy or modern. Sometimes we run out of a certain color of thread and have to wait for the next batch to arrive. That’s just life here in the production center. We take care of the sales ourselves too.
