Sailu Tailors is right here at house number C-114 in Bojjannapet. We are part of the Narsimhulapet area in Warangal. It’s a small shop but we keep very busy with our sewing machines. You can usually find me sitting cross-legged or on a small stool, working on a pair of trousers or a shirt. There are rolls of different fabrics leaning against the walls and scissors lying on the table. People come in with their cloth and we take their measurements with an old yellow tape. It’s a steady kind of work. The light comes in through the front door, and we usually have the radio playing some music in the background. Bojjannapet is a place where everyone knows each other’s business. We don't have any apprentices, just a couple of us doing the stitching. Sometimes the thread gets tangled or the machine acts up, which can be frustrating. We try to finish everything on time, especially before festivals when everyone wants new clothes. The floor gets covered in dust and fabric scraps by the end of the day. It’s a simple life, and I’ve been doing this for more years than I can count. We don't use any fancy computer programs to design things. We just use our eyes and our hands to get the fit right for the local folks. I make sure to sharpen my scissors once a week because the thick cloth can make them dull very fast.
