Kakatiya High School

Down in Ekashila Nagar, you will find Kakatiya High School. It is tucked away in a spot that gets quite a bit of traffic during the morning hours. We have been part of this Warangal neighborhood for quite some time now. The building is a bit of a maze if you are not used to it. We have classrooms on two floors and the stairs are quite narrow. You can hear the shuffling of feet all day long. We have a small yard where the kids gather for the morning prayer. It is usually a bit dusty, especially when the wind picks up. We do not have much in the way of fancy decorations on the walls, just some maps and maybe a few drawings the students did. The teachers here have been working together for years. We know which student belongs to which family. During the hot months, we all struggle with the heat, but the school stays open and the lessons continue. We focus on the basics like reading, writing, and math. Sometimes we have small events where the kids sing or recite poems, and those are the days the school feels really alive. Most days, though, it is just the steady sound of chalk on a board and the rustling of paper. We just try to get through the syllabus and make sure everyone is doing their homework. It is a regular school for regular people.
