Hussaini Transport

Our base is out in Anepuram, Maripeda, at C-64 in Kudya Thanda. It is a quiet area compared to the big cities, but things are always moving here at Hussaini Transport. We have a big open yard where the trucks are parked when they are not on a trip. The ground is mostly dirt and gravel, so it gets very muddy when it rains. We spend a lot of time checking the tires and the engines. There is always a mechanic nearby with grease on his clothes, fixing something or the other. The office is just a small room with a tin roof and a couple of plastic chairs. We keep our logbooks there and a map pinned to the wall that is starting to yellow at the edges. Early mornings are the busiest when the drivers are getting ready to head out to different parts of the state. We make sure they have their papers and enough fuel for the journey. It is a tough business because you never know what the roads will be like or if there will be delays at the checkpoints. We drink tea from the local shop while we wait for the trucks to check back in. Sometimes we sit outside under the shade of a tree to escape the heat inside the room. It is honest work and it keeps us occupied from dawn until late at night. We do not have many visitors except for the drivers and the occasional delivery man.
