We are over here at Maniyeri House in Vellur. Most days start early because the sun gets pretty hot by noon and nobody wants to be out in that heat for too long if they can help it. Hindustan Construction Company Ltd has been a part of this landscape for some time now. You can usually find us surrounded by stacks of papers and blueprints that have seen better days. The office isn't anything fancy, just a functional space where we get things done. People drop by to talk about projects or just to ask questions about how things are going. Sometimes the fan makes a bit of a clicking noise, but we’re used to it. We handle a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to organizing what needs to happen on site. It’s not always easy, especially when things don’t go exactly as planned, which happens more often than you’d think. There’s a lot of back and forth with suppliers and local folks. We just try to keep things moving along steadily. It’s mostly about showing up and doing the work, day in and day out. Vellur is a quiet place for the most part, but our office stays busy. We’ve got some old chairs that aren't the most comfortable, but they do the trick for meetings. We don't spend much time worrying about how the place looks. As long as the jobs get finished and the trucks are moving, we’re doing okay. It is a simple life but it keeps us on our toes.
