Hamu Vegetable Market

If you head over to Pakeera Thanda in Mungimadugu, you’ll find us at Hamu Vegetable Market. We are located right at H. No -C-136. Our day starts way before the sun comes up because that’s when the crates arrive. We spend hours sorting through the greens, potatoes, and whatever else the farmers brought in that morning. It’s a messy job sometimes, with dirt on the floor and empty boxes stacked up in the corners. We’ve been here in the Narsimhulapeta area for a while, so we know most of the people who walk through the door. It isn't a supermarket with bright lights; it’s just a regular market where things are fresh and priced for the neighbors. Sometimes we run out of the good tomatoes early, and other times we have too many cabbages left over. We just deal with it as it comes. The shelves are mostly old wood, and we write the prices on bits of cardboard. It works for us and the folks around here. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us moving bags and helping people find what they want for dinner. It gets crowded on market days, and the noise of people talking and crates moving is just part of the atmosphere. We like being a part of this community and keeping the stalls stocked every single day. We keep the shop open late for those coming home from work.
