Shiva Balaji Cotton Industries

Down here at Survey No 120/A in Enumamula, things get pretty busy when the season is right. Shiva Balaji Cotton Industries has been part of this landscape for a good bit now. It’s a dusty place, mostly because of the cotton and the dirt roads around the facility. You can hear the machinery hum from quite a distance away. We spend most of our mornings just getting everything warmed up and checking if any parts need oiling. The sun gets really hot over Enumamula in the middle of the day, so we usually take our breaks in the shade of the main shed. We don’t really do anything fancy here. It’s just about moving the cotton through the machines and making sure it’s piled up right for the trucks. Sometimes the power goes out, and everything stops, which gives us a chance to sit and talk for a while until it comes back on. Our address is easy to find if you know the survey numbers, but for a stranger, it looks like a lot of other sheds in the area. We’ve got a small crew, mostly people from the nearby villages who’ve been with us for years. We aren't trying to be the biggest place around, just trying to handle the loads that come through our gates without too much trouble or breakdown. It is honest work and it keeps everyone busy from sunrise until the gates close up at night.
