Aparna Tailoring Shop

Our little shop is inside H. No:-1-1/1 in Rajapally, which is part of the Narsampet area in Warangal. It’s basically just a room with a couple of sewing machines and a lot of thread. I started this because I always liked making clothes, and eventually, the neighbors started asking if I could fix their things or sew a new blouse for them. It’s not a big operation. Most of the time, it’s just the sound of the machine whirring and the snip of the scissors. The floor is usually covered in little bits of scrap fabric and thread that I have to sweep up at the end of every day. People bring their own material, and I do the measurements and the stitching. Sometimes the power goes out, and I have to wait to finish a piece, which can be frustrating when there’s a deadline. I don’t have a sign with big neon lights; people just know where the house is. It’ bit of a walk from the main road, but people don’t seem to mind. I take pride in making sure the fit is right, even if it takes a bit longer. I’m not a designer or anything like that; I’m just a tailor who knows how to make a garment sit properly. It’s a lot of sitting and a lot of looking at fine details, but it’s what I do for the folks here in Rajapally.
