Vijayalaxmi Rice Industries

Vijayalaxmi Rice Industries is located in Prashanth Nagar, right near the Rampur area in Kazipet. We have a large shed where all the processing happens. It is not a quiet place. The sound of the machinery is constant from morning until evening. Kazipet is a big railway junction so we are used to the sound of trains too. We handle a lot of paddy from the local farmers in the district. The work is very seasonal. During harvest, we are busy around the clock and the yard is full of tractors. During the off-season, we spend our time maintaining the equipment and cleaning the place up. The heat inside the mill can be quite something during the summer. We have a few exhaust fans but they don't do much. The workers here are mostly local people from Prashanth Nagar. We don't have a human resources department or a marketing team. We just have people who know how to run the machines and stack the bags. It is a practical business. We don't make big promises. We just mill the rice and send it out. The building itself is old and the paint is peeling in places. We care more about the machinery inside. It is a tough way to make a living but it is what we have done for a long time. There is always a pile of empty sacks in the corner that need sorting by hand.
