I open up early at Srinadhachary Chicken Center here in Gollapally. The sun isn't even fully up most days when I start. House number 5-16 is where everything happens. I get the birds ready and make sure the place is clean before the first person walks in. People in Nallabelly know where to find us. It gets busy on Sundays, everyone wants their meat for lunch. I spend most of my time behind the counter with the knife. The floor gets wet and I have to sweep it a lot. It’s loud when the fans are going and the birds are moving around. Sometimes the neighbors stop by just to chat for a minute while they wait. My hands stay busy all morning. By the afternoon, it slows down and I can sit on the bench outside for a bit. It’s just how it goes here. We've been at this spot for a while now. Some days are hotter than others and the flies get annoying but that is part of the job. I keep the scales balanced right so everyone gets what they pay for. It is a simple life in the village. We don't have fancy signs or anything like that. Just the work and the people who come by every week. When the sun goes down, I close the shutters and go home, then do it all again tomorrow. It is hard on the back but it pays the bills.
