Sudhakar Fish Market

At Sudhakar Fish Market, things get started way before the sun even thinks about coming up. We are located at H. No -1-107 in Potharajpally. If you come by Geesugonda early in the morning, you can usually smell the fresh catch before you even see us. We get the fish in big crates and then we have to sort them out and put them on ice so they stay good for the customers. It’s wet and messy work, and your clothes always end up smelling like the water by the end of the shift. The floor is always damp from the melting ice and the water we use to keep things clean. We don’t have a fancy display, just the wooden tables and the scales we use to weigh everything out. People from all around Potharajpally come to us because they know we get the fish from the local sources. We don't talk much while we're working because there is a lot to do, especially on Sundays when everyone wants fish for lunch. My hands get cold from the ice, but you get used to it after a few years. It’s a basic business. We just sell what we have and when it’s gone, we close up and head home to rest before doing it all again the next day. It’s just how the fish trade works here, and we just keep the stalls ready for people.
