Life at No:44 in the Sidco Industrial Estate is mostly about the sound of metal hitting metal. We are based in Ranipet, and if you know this area, you know it gets quite humid and the air always feels a bit heavy. At Vettri Steel Engineers Private Limited, we spend our hours working with steel in all its forms. The workshop floor is never truly clean because there are always shavings or scraps from the last job lying around. We have a few machines that have seen better days but they still run fine if you know how to handle them. Most of our guys have been here for years and they don't need much instruction anymore. We just get on with the fabrication or whatever engineering task is on the schedule for the day. It’s not a polished corporate setup with glass walls. It’s a place where you wear boots and get your clothes stained with oil and iron filings. On rainy days, the sound on the corrugated roof is so loud you can’t hear yourself think, so we just work in silence then. We deal with local projects mostly, and the people who come to see us usually just walk straight into the back to find someone. It is a practical way of living, making things that are meant to last and not worrying about the small stuff. We just keep the machines running and finish the work as it comes in.
