Marwa Marbles Shop

We opened Marwa Marbles Shop here at 1, Anna Salai Main Road quite some time back. Melvisharam is a busy place and being right on the main road means there is always a lot of dust and noise from the passing trucks. It is just how things are here. Most days start early, opening the gates and seeing what we have in stock. The slabs are heavy and moving them around takes a lot of effort and a couple of strong hands. People walk in from the street, sometimes just to look at the different shades of white or grey we have sitting in the back. It isn't a fancy place with air conditioning or anything like that. We just have the stone stacked up where people can see it. Sometimes the weather gets really hot and the stone feels warm to the touch, other times when it rains, we have to cover things up quickly. It's a lot of physical work, really. Most of our time is spent just checking the edges of the pieces or making sure the measurements are okay for whoever is asking. We don't really do much talking, mostly just showing what’s available on the floor. It is a simple setup we’ve got going on this corner of Anna Salai. People know where we are if they need something for their floors. It’s been this way for a while now and we just keep at it every day. It’s a living.
