Vasista Dal Mill

Vasista Dal Mill is found at 2-53-421 on the Main Road in Balijipeta. If you walk by, you can usually smell the raw pulses and hear the hum of the milling machines inside. It’s a functional building, built to handle heavy loads of grain and the weight of the equipment. We spend our days processing different kinds of dal for the market. There is always a layer of fine dust on everything, no matter how much we sweep up. That is just how a dal mill is. We take the raw crop from the local farmers and turn it into something people can cook and eat. The machinery is old but we keep it running with regular oiling and a bit of care. Our workspace is mostly open to let the air flow through because it gets very hot inside during the afternoon hours. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. If you want to talk to us, you just come into the main area and find someone who isn't currently busy with a machine. The Main Road is often busy with tractors and carts, especially during the peak season when the harvest comes in. We work long hours then, sometimes late into the night to get everything done. It’s a basic life, centered around the harvest and the machines. We’ve been in Balijipeta for a long time. We just keep our heads down and keep the mill turning.
