Chanda Creations

Chanda Creations is located in Shop No. 82 and 83 inside the Sri Balaji Textile Market. It’s a bit of a maze in here with all the different stalls, but once you find the Cantonment area, we aren't too hard to spot. We have rolls of cloth stacked up to the ceiling. It smells like fresh cotton and dye in here most days. We spend a lot of time unfolding fabric for customers and then folding it back up again when they change their minds about a color. My hands are usually tired by the evening from all the cutting and lifting. The lighting in the market isn't the best, so we sometimes have to take the cloth out to the doorway to show the real pattern in the sunlight. It's a small space, so we have to be organized, even if it looks like a mess of colors to someone walking by. We’ve been in this market for several years now. We see the same faces every season. We don't do big sales or fancy window displays. We just put out what we have on the tables. Sometimes the shipment from the mills is late, and we have to wait around for the truck. It gets really hot in the middle of the day because the fans don't move the air much in these narrow aisles. We just drink a lot of water and keep working. It's just about getting the right fabric to the people who need it.
