Out here in Pardesipalem, specifically at SY NO 3/9 A, B, and C, the day starts pretty early. Usually, the sun isn't even fully up when the first few guys arrive at the yard to check on the kiln. The stacks of bricks grow tall over the week, and then the trucks come to haul them away to various construction sites around the area. It gets quite dusty, especially when the wind picks up across the open space. We don't have much in the way of fancy chairs or air conditioning. Most of the time, we’re out in the yard or sitting in the small shed checking the ledger. You can hear the sound of the tractor engines and the clink of bricks being loaded one by one. Sometimes the weather plays tricks on us, and a heavy rain means we have to cover everything up fast. It’s just the regular grind of a local brick business. We’ve been at this address for a bit now, and the neighbors know us by the smoke from the chimney. We just focus on getting the piles moved and keeping the site running. The tea guy comes around ten, and that’s usually the highlight of the morning for everyone.
