Vijetha Kirana Shop

People usually find us on Bakkanapalem Road. We are at number 4-36-95 in Srinivasa Nagar. It’s a local kirana shop, so we have all the usual stuff you’d expect to find in a neighborhood store. There are bags of rice stacked up near the entrance and small packets hanging from the ceiling. We don't have air conditioning, so we keep the big front door open all day to let the breeze in from the road. It gets a bit noisy with the traffic in Srinivasa Nagar, but we’ve stopped noticing it. Vijetha Kirana Shop is basically where we spend most of our lives. My family helps out, and we know almost everyone who walks through the door by their first name. We aren't trying to be a big supermarket or anything like that. We just want to make sure the shelves are full and the floor is swept mostly clean. Sometimes the cat from next door comes in and sleeps on a sack of grain, and we just let it be. The lighting inside is a bit dim because one of the bulbs has been flickering for a week. We keep a ledger on the counter to write things down. It’s just a practical, everyday shop for the people living around Bakkanapalem Road. We don't have fancy displays, just the goods people need for their kitchens. It’s hard work being here from dawn till late at night.
